8. Trade Skills
Brewing is one of the cheapest and eventually easiest tradeskills but it still shouldn’t be underestimated.
8.1. Brewing
To reach a high skill lvl you can hunt spiders (east karanas) and snakes (commons) to gather components, or simply buy them in a shop. They are cheap but you??ll need lots of them. You have to try (and fail ) many, many times to reach a decent lvl and the production cost of drinks raises with the required skill lvl. Wisdom / Intelligence (whichever of them is higher) influence the speed of learning brewing and the amount of money you need to spend. When none of them is at the cap you should seek help from an enchanter. You can also use the lvl 44 song Cassindra’S Elegy to raise int. and wis C recommended wis/int: 237. Other stats don??t influence brewing (stated by Verant). Remember that alcohol lowers wisdom and intelligence so don??t drink and brew .

8.1.1. Improving the skill
It can be done quite fast because all you need can be bought in shops. 300pp cash should be enough to reach the maximum skill lvl. You??ll need mob dropped items for the drinks placed in brackets C with the advantage of saving some plat when you are low on funds.
What you need:
1) Shortglass / Bottle / Cask 2) 1 – 7 ingredients = alcohol or fruit juice
Improvement steps
until 41 Skill Mead: yeast, hops, malt (Cask)
until 62 Skill
Fish wine: water, grapes, fish (Bottle)
[until 95 Skill
Red wine: grapes, wine yeast, foraged berries (Bottle)]
until 135 Skill
Ol’ Tujim’s Fierce Brew: barley, hops, yeast, malt (Cask) Tumpy’s Tonic: kiola nut, water
until 142 Skill
Double brewed double stout dwarven ale: 2 Dwarven ale, 2 short beer (Cask)
[until 168 Skill

Not really that important, unless you are playing on Firiona Vie. Still it can be fun having a certain language set for your guild or friends.
Misc. Skills
Level Trained Skill Cap Until 50 Cap Above 50
0 No Safe Fall 100 100 1 No Alcohol Tolerance 200 200 1 No Beg 200 200 1 No Fishing 200 200 1 No Sense Heading 200 200 1 No Swimming 200 200
12 Yes Forage 55 55 17 Yes Sneak 75 75 20 Yes Sense Traps 75 75 24 Yes Safe Fall 40 40 25 Yes Hide 40 40 30 Yes Disarm Traps 100 100 35 Yes Track 100 100 40 Yes Pick Lock 100 100
Quite a few of those skills are very useful C although pick lock becomes rather useless later on (important doors require 201+) it is still a nice to have post-50. Safe Fall get’s trained unwanted anyway, same goes for swimming. Begging, Sense Heading and Sense Traps are typical downtime-practice skills C not to forget Track, which comes in handy whenever no rangers or druids are nearby.

11 Yes Brass 235 235 14 Yes Wind 235 235

Again it makes sense to train all skills to the same degree C practice when you have to wait for others or for a group. Travelling on boats, playing in bad groups and while you chat with others are also good opportunities to stay in shape =).
Trade Skills (only one can exceed 200)
Level Trained Skill Cap Until 50 Cap Above 50
1 No Blacksmithing 250 250 1 No Brewing 250 250 1 No Cooking 250 250 1 Yes Fletching 250 250 1 No Jewellery 250 250 1 No Pottery 250 250 1 No Tailoring 250 250
Depending on what you want to do besides hunting, or if you want to make some extra money or rather like to waste some of it you can chose between different trade skills. You can make a large amount of platinum with smithing, the downside is that you first have to invest a lot =).
Language Skills
Level Trained Skill Cap Until 50 Cap Above 50

Wood Elves: Add 10 Charisma, 10 Dexterity, 5 Strength. Half Elves: Add 10 Charisma, 10 Strength, 5 Dexterity. Humans: Add 10 Charisma, 10 Dexterity, 5 Strength. Vah Shir: Add 15 Dexterity, 10 Charisma.
7.1.3. Religion
Decides wether NPC??s like you or not. Agnostic is usually the best choice, since you can take full advantage of your illusion masks. Dark Elf illusion doesn’t really help if you got Mithaniel Marr as your deity =).
7.2. Skill tables

In the low levels you can calculate the maximum skill with an easy formula: (Level*5) + 5. Some of them reach there maximum already in the mid-levels while other’s still can be raised at level 60. Below you will find all bard skills listed, together with information about their caps, if trainable or not and at what level they can be learned. Most skills can be trained simply by repeating them over and over.
Combat Skills
Level Trained Skill Cap Until 50 Cap Above 50
1 No 1 Hand Blunt 200 225 1 No 1 Hand Slashing 200 225 1 No Bind Wound 150 200 1 No Defense 200 252 1 No Hand to Hand 100 100 1 No Offense 200 225 1 No Piercing 200 225 1 No Throwing 113 113
10 Yes Dodge 125 155 17 Yes Dual Wield 210 210 26 Yes Instill Doubt 100 100 53 Yes Parry 75 75 58 Yes Riposte 75 75
I recommend training your combat spells by changing your weapons from time to time. You can spare one skill if you save your skill points received by leveling and spend them later on all at once. Especially at lower levels it’s easy to train all weapon skills at the same rate. An exception here is Hand to Hand, but you will hardly need it anyway.

Musical Skills
Level Trained Skill Cap Until 50 Cap Above 50
1 No Singing 235 235 5 Yes Percussion 235 235 8 Yes String 235 235
10 Yes Meditate 1 1

7. General Information

7.1. Starting a Bard

7.1.1. Server
By now there is a wide choice of servers, ranging from PVP Servers, Team PVP Servers, Roleplaying servers to European Servers, Old-School Servers, Servers resulting from Splits, new servers etc etc?? In case you are not joining a server where your friends play on already, I recommend starting on a rather “young” non-PVP server, or possibly Stromm (the newbie server). Old servers already have a very “fixed” guild landscape, split servers often consist of superhigh level guilds escaping from an overcroweded server and if you don’t speak spanish/german you don’t really want to go for a european either =).
7.1.2. Stats
Wood elves, Half elves, Humans and Vah shirs are possible choices as races when starting a new Bard. Below you will find an overview of their starting Statistics:

Race Strength Stamina Agility Dexterity Wisdom Intelligence Charisma Bonus
Wood Elf 70 65 95 90 80 75 85 25
Half Elf 75 70 90 95 60 75 85 25
Human 80 75 75 85 75 75 80 25
Vah Shir 95 75 90 80 70 65 75 25

strength: Influences max damage, offensive skills and the weight you can carry. Keep this especially in mind since in the early and mid levels the plate armor you will carry can weight a lot. stamina: Hitpoints and the time you survive under water without breathing. dextory: The more DEX you got, the more often a Weapon with effect will proc. Another benefit is the reduced fizzle rate with songs that comes with a high dexterity. agility: Important for defensive skills: the higher your AGI, the faster you will learn them. Your armor class increases and the chance of getting hit decreases with a high AGI: wisdom: Not really of any importance to a Bard, defines the mana pool of a priest class and how fast you learn trade skills if your WIS is higher than your INT. intelligence: More important to a Bard than wisdom, because INT is what determines the size of your mana pool. This becomes important for higher-level charming and the use of the Fading Memories AA. charisma: Besides the minor effect of getting better prices with a high charisma, the main effect is the increased effectiveness of “mind-based” songs, like charm for example. recommended:
